Our Impact

Corporate Responsibility

At National Development, corporate responsibility is a core value guiding how we operate and make decisions. We believe that prioritizing environmental, social, and governance factors creates lasting value for our investors, tenants, residents, employees, and communities. From transforming brownfield sites to delivering the region’s first LEED Gold-certified apartment building and Boston’s largest solar installation, we have long been leaders in sustainable development. By embedding these principles into our work, we reduce environmental impact, strengthen communities, and uphold strong governance across our portfolio and business.

Sustainability at Every Stage

We prioritize sustainability at every stage of an asset’s life cycle—from acquisition and development to operations. Our approach includes climate risk mitigation, energy and water efficiency, and responsible waste management to reduce environmental impact and enhance quality of life. We focus on high-performance systems, promote recycling and reuse, and regularly pursue certifications like LEED, ENERGY STAR, Fitwell, and WELL to meet the highest sustainability and wellness standards.

Rooted in Service, Committed to Community

We actively support our communities, tenants, and employees. Each year, we contribute to nearly 60 nonprofits through financial support, pro bono work, and volunteerism, with many of our leaders serving on nonprofit boards. We prioritize tenant engagement through wellness programs, community events, and partnerships that foster connection. Employees benefit from strong health and wellness resources, professional development opportunities, and meaningful ways to engage with our corporate responsibility efforts—creating a supportive, purpose-driven workplace where our team can thrive.
